History of Kedarnath:
According to stories, it is believed that the temple was built during the time of Pandavas. After the Mahabharat war, the Pandavas came in search of Lord Shiva to seek salvation of their feet. Shivji took shelter in Kedarnath to stick to them and then appeared before them. The temple was rebuilt by Shankaracharya in the 8th century.
The temple is made of huge stones and no type of cement has been used in its construction. There is a triangular shaped Shivling of Lord Shiva in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Apart from this, there are idols of many gods and goddesses engraved on the outside of the temple.
In 2013 there was a terrible flood here, which caused widespread destruction. Despite this natural disaster, the temple did not suffer any major damage. It was seen that a huge stone came and suddenly stopped behind the temple, which people consider a miracle. Now whether you consider it a coincidence or a miracle, it is your point of view. After reconstruction work, this area was again opened for devotees.
The journey to Kedarnath is considered difficult and thrilling. To reach here, devotees have to first come to Guptakashi or Sonprayag from there and then go to Gorikund by taxi. After that you have to do a trekking of about 16 km from Gorikund. Now you can go by Helicopter.
